Te Mata Peak

Te Mata Peak

Te Mata Peak Is very popular with the Parafliers, and is an excellent Slope Soaring site.

It has sites for all winds in all directions, well worth a look if you are going to the East coast.

When flying watch for Paragliders and the public when landing, as it is a popular site seeing spot.

This site is not for the beginner.

Titahi Bay

Titahi Bay

Titahi Bay Wellington is an excellent flying Site

It works well with winds from NW-SW, this site is very popular with the people from Wellington. The access is from Transmitter street into Whitireia Reserve.

The flying site is located next to a transmitter tower, there is losts of parking on an old concrete platform.

Landing is a breese in the dead air behind the face. Watch for other pilot when landing, also in strong wind remember to keep the fast turn on from the face to the dead air behind you, otherwise you will end up in the carpark.

Also remember to check what frequencies other pilots are on before switching on.

Wind Mills

Wind Mills

Wind Mills flying site is located up Hall Block road.

It is a dirt road up to the flying site, which is about half way to the top of the range.

You know when you are there as there is parking on the right hand side of the road which over looks a gorge with rain forest.

The site is on the left hand side just over a small bank.

Flying is excellent in NE/E winds and if there is SE winds there is a site to the right from the NE/E site.

Landing is quite a challenge as you have to do a low circuit and slip up into the bowl

Caution do not let the model go behind you into the rain forest as there is no lift, and very hard to find your model.

The SW site is excellent flying in a tight bowl but landing is for the experenced pilots or EPS models.

Also use caution on the dirt road as the is traffic.

Shannon Site

Shannon Flying Site

Shannon flying site is located on Heights road just south of Shannon.

The site is a drive up a narrow dirt road to the top (approx 2000+ feet), there are a lot of sites on the way to the top but the parking is very limited. It is a no exit road so the traffic is limited to the farmer(nice fellow)

Please use caution on this road as it is narrow and keep your speed down.

Excellent flying in winds from NW-SW, landing from the top site is quite easy on the left hand side as you are in the wash from the mound in front.

Pahiatua Site

Pahiatua Flying Site
Location Lu's Place on Range Road Central, if you go to the dirt road you have gone to far. The entrance is on the bend when the pine trees are on the right.
Drive up the driveway and enter the property through the gate at the top of the drive on the right. Drive around the homestead and across the paddock. You will see a metal wind barrier.
Excellent flying site when the wind is form the NW/W. Very easy to land in the dead air behind the slope edge. when flying there for the first time watch the pine trees. lus-place.jpg
