Hi Guys.
Glenn here. I am setting up a club trainer/test heli for friends of mine importing them into NZ.
You may have heard of them. The Compass line of heli's and specifically the one I have is called a knight 3D. This will be Buddy Boxed to help newbies but also it can be flown by anyone interested in testing the heli to decide whether they may like to invest in one.

Glenns new scale ship buzzing the feild at low altitude, complete with lights it really looks the part, still to be added are the missiles and tail stabiliser.
And some normal stuff from me, still buzzing around and getting it all upside down.

Hi Guys.
If anyone is thinking of getting into Heli's or you know of someone that is keen on getting into heli's in the area there is free help from experienced keen guys available. I have seen a few from the area come and go due to requiring guidance and good advice and not getting it.

Some are buying less than ideal equipment due to cost and it's unfortunate but necessary to be made aware that heli's aren't particularly cheap to get into but if the right gear is bought at a higher initial outlay there is a huge improvement in reliability, ease of operation and a notable improvement in the rate of progress.
Now I am not mentioning any particular heli's as to be honest most of them out there are great for learning on and nowadays one can't go too wrong with almost any model.
But there are a few basics that can help.
1. Don't care what anyone says.....A good sim can cover it's own cost in one crash saved!
By good sim I mean the likes of realflight, reflex etc.
2. Some engines are just not good heli engines. This point alone can make a great heli a dog
3. Some gyros are touted as being ideal for "beginners" yet these people need the best gear in this area they can afford! There are gyros that will take a person from hovering to all out 3D......and some won't. Skimping here is not advisable.
4. Some radios won't future proof a person very well. I always recommend the best mid range radio a person can afford from the start.....this isn't a piece of equipment you want to "upgrade" regularly. This includes avoiding cheap servos and tacky switches.
5. The internet is full of good information
Anyone can call Myself or no doubt George (the big cheese of activegear ) to ask advice or help in setups. I can't of course speak for George but doubt that he wouldn't want to talk helis! Bear in mind anyone bringing their heli down to the "heli hangar" here in Ohau risk it being pulled to bits in front of their eyes if the basic setup isn't good.

Easter weekend and it seems the easter bunny has been delivering helicopters instead of chocolate eggs. With 5 helicopters buzzing around in the morning and Mike arriving with his new ship mid afternoon for a knee knocking training session.
Michael decided to go a bit loopy and looped his heli a number of times and those poor little drink bottles didn't stand a chance when it came to heli skittles.
Before long we had choppers going loopy all over the place and a bunch of fun had by all

Well done Mike, you are on the way to being an addicted heli pilot.
